2024/03/25 A test of the world's conscience - terrorism attack in Moscow
The deadly attack on Crocus city hall outside Moscow on Friday has raised serious concerns about security in Russia, as experts call for increased international collaboration to combat terrorism worldwide.
With the death toll reaching 137, including three children, and more than 150 individuals injured, Russia's President Vladimir Putin declared a national day of mourning on Sunday.
It was the deadliest attack on Russian territory since the Beslan school siege nearly 20 years ago, when Islamist militants took more than 1,000 people, including hundreds of children, hostage. That siege resulted in the deaths of 334 people.
Details about this attack are still emerging, but according to the currently known information, it took only 18 minutes from the first alarm to the moment the terrorists escaped by car. The terrorists behaved very professionally throughout the attack, throwing grenades and incendiary bombs at the same time as shooting, and changed clothes immediately after they got out of the concert hall. The people at the concert venue had no time to react.
No matter where it happens, indiscriminate attacks on ordinary people in public should be one of the bottom lines of mankind, and any who cross it must be severely punished. Terrorist attacks against civilians should be the common enemy of all civilized governments. Only by uniting the people of all countries in the world can terrorists not find a place to hide.
